CERTIFICATE IN ANDROID BASED MOBILE APP DEVELOPMENT

Certificate in Android-based Mobile App Development

Introduction

In December 2011, Tata Institute of Social Sciences set up the School of School of Skills Education (SSE) to provide immediate and definite interventions to improve the lives of the disadvantaged and marginalized youth, especially who are excluded by the formal school education system, through appropriate School of Skills Education (SSE) training programmes. It has been set up with a vision of creating an ecosystem that would bring back the dignity of labour for blue-collar streams of work and create sustainable sources of income. This project has been initiated under the aegis of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) proposed by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Introduction and Course Objectives

Mobile application development is a term used to represent the act or procedure by which application software is developed for handheld devices, such as personal digital assistants, enterprise digital assistants or mobile phones. Mobile app development has been gradually rising, both in terms of revenues and jobs created. A 2013 analyst report estimates there are 529,000 direct App Economy jobs within the EU 28 members, 60% of which are mobile app developers.

Android software development is the procedure by which new applications are developed for the Android operating system. Applications are frequently developed in Java programming language using the Android software development kit (SDK), but other development environments are also available.

The Android Software Development kit (SDK) includes a complete set of development tools. These include a debugger, libraries, a handset emulator based on QEMU, documentation, sample code, and tutorials. Currently supported development platforms include computers running Linux (any modern desktop Linux distribution), Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later, and Windows XP or later. As of March 2015, the SDK is not available on Android itself, but software development is possible by using specialized Android applications.

PhoneGap is a popular open-source mobile application development framework which permits software developer to build applications for mobile devices using CSS, HTML, and JavaScript. It enables wrapping up of CSS, HTML, and JavaScript code depending upon the platform of the device.

It extends the features of HTML and JavaScript to work with the device. The resulting applications are hybrid, meaning that they are neither truly native mobile applications nor purely Web-based.
