Introduction and Course Objectives
VB.Net may be a simple, modern, object-oriented programming language developed by Microsoft to mix the facility of .NET Framework and therefore the common language runtime with the productivity benefits that are the hallmark of Visual Basic.
Visual Basic was initially introduced in 1991 because the first programing language that directly supported programmable graphical user interfaces using language-supplied objects. From that point until 2002, there have been five other versions released, each version having features that increased the facility of the language. In 2001, Microsoft released the .NET (pronounced “dot net”) platform. Visual Basic .NET, or VB.NET, is an upgrade to the last version of VB (version 6.0) that conforms to the .NET platform. As you'll see in subsequent chapters, the changes in VB.NET allow programmers to write down Web or desk-top applications within an equivalent language. Additionally, VB.NET is fully object-oriented as against prior versions that had many, but not all, of the weather of an object-oriented language. This book is predicated on VB.NET. Within the balance of the book we'll sometimes ask Visual Basic as VB, omitting .NET. From a programming viewpoint, Visual Basic is an object-oriented language that consists of two fundamental parts: a visible part and a language part. The visual a part of the language consists of a group of objects, while the language part consists of a high-level procedural programing language. These two elements of the language are used together to make applications. An application is just a visible Basic program which will be run under the Windows OS
